I just KNEW I shouldn’t go. I didn’t go yesterday because I felt like a stay-in night. Before I left earlier tonight, I told my husband “I just feel nervous…like something’s going to go wrong!” And at Shaws, items in cart, I almost went to put everything back TWICE.
But no, I wanted a deal. And now I can hear Marsellus Wallace’s voice in my ear saying “Pride only hurts, it never helps.”
I swipe my card to pay…and didn’t get the $15.00 catalina. The manager was called, who proceeded to vehemently deny that it would work on pre-sale prices, so I ended up a few dollars short, had to leave, go get more items, come back, have the manager re-ring everything, enter in a million boxes of cheerios again, and go through the receipt line by line to get the $15.00 to print. I.Felt. Horrible. And she had to keep helping people at the self-checkout and running back and forth. Then, she told me I had the wrong size box of Cheerios, so we had to get more of the RIGHT size (which still wasn’t listed on the flyer).
And now I don’t know whether the problem was the Cheerios (my suspicion) or the pre-sale prices. *see edit*
Siiiiigh. I should know better by now. Anytime I’ve ever felt not right about a transaction, it’s never worked. And I’ve never regreted walking away. I’ve never been harmed by not spending money, by not getting the deal that seemed oh-so-important at the time. Not Spending Money is Not Spending Money.
And I also need to remember that I got things we like. Things we’ll eat and enjoy, and give thanks for. Things that finally did get me a $15.00 catalina. And that a deal-gone-wrong or a deal-gone-awkward isn’t the end of the world. It’s happened at CVS, it’s happened at Walgreens, it’s happened at Market Basket. And it’ll happen again, I’m sure.
So now I’m going to go watch a movie with my husband, forget about it, and ready my coupons for next week’s sales.
_______UPDATE______
OK, so friend “Jen” goes…same problem with pre-sale prices. AND they won’t “roll” the $15 catalina coupons, nor will they take the Shaw’s coupon and the manufacter’s coupon together, or two coupons for the same product with enough products to cover BOTH separately! And she JUST came from another Shaws where they did honor the pre-sale prices and her regular coupons. So…yeah. I’ll be staying away from this location the next time this sale comes around!!
I enjoy your blog! The Shaw’s deal worked for me the majority of the time I went this past week, but when it didn’t it was because I had something in my cart that was SUPPOSED to work but wasn’t programmed, after all (the Muir Glen sauce). It did work on pre-sale prices, but I doubt the Shaw’s employees know that – I never push that issue when something doesn’t work out…
The OYNO coupons stated they could not be used on P&G products; that’s probably why your store wouldn’t roll them for you.
Glad you got some good food you can enjoy!
different Shaws do thing differently. I had one that would roll the catalinas but one that would, she scanned everything I gave her.
sorry, one would and one wouldn’t- little typo
Hi Sarah Marie,
Thanks! I’m glad you got some great deals this past week.
Yeah, I didn’t expect the Shaw’s employees to know, but they did (surprisingly!) when my friend went to the other location–they told her even before she paid that it would work on pre-sale prices! I thought that was pretty cool they were aware of what was going on.
Hey Kristin–I guess so! Learned my lesson to scout around beforehand 😉
